Life by Touch… Is It Easy?

 August 6, 2025

When sight is gone, all that remains is to rely on hearing, touch, smell — and the compassion of kind people. That is how Angelina, a blind young woman, lives.

We’ve known her for several years. She is now twenty. Once, she was a student at a boarding school for blind and visually impaired children — a school we regularly visit to share the Gospel.

After graduation, Angelina completed massage therapy courses and now works in that field — one of the few professions available to people with her disability. She is kind, cheerful, and open with those close to her. But in unfamiliar settings, she feels nervous and unsure — quite natural for someone without sight. What a sighted person can grasp in a glance, the blind must carefully discern through sound and touch — to avoid an awkward or even dangerous situation.

When you think about it, you begin to appreciate the gift of sight so much more…

We are thankful that Angelina has remained connected with her Christian friends. Though she has no family of her own — she is a full orphan — she visits believing families whenever she can, where she is loved, welcomed, and treated as one of their own. The children joyfully include her in their games, and in those moments, Angelina forgets her illness and loneliness.

“Here, I feel at home… needed and loved,” she says with touching gratitude.

At first, she felt shy during group prayers, but now she gladly says “Amen,” listens to children’s songs about Jesus, and participates in everything.

“Careful, there are steps — one… two… three… now it’s flat,” gently guides her eight-year-old Sophia, who already understands that a blind person needs help — in everything.

This lesson in compassion is one children will carry with them for life.

Many continue to pray for Angelina and other blind young people — our former students — that the Lord would lead them, protect them, and grant them spiritual sight.

With Christ, it is possible to walk through any darkness.

We sincerely thank everyone who takes part in the lives of the blind — who supports, comforts, and serves them in the name of Jesus Christ!
